For decades, fluoride has been called the “superhero mineral” of dentistry—and for good reason. Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel, making it more resistant to acid attacks from bacteria and sugary foods. This significantly reduces the risk of dental caries (tooth decay).
Some people, however, have questioned whether fluoride is safe. Here’s the scientific truth: fluoride is safe when used in the correct amount. Toothpastes with 1000–1450 ppm fluoride are recommended for daily use, especially for children and adults at risk of cavities.
At Explicit Dental, we recommend fluoride toothpastes like Colgate, Oral B, and Mirafluor C because they provide the right balance of cavity protection. Overuse (swallowing large amounts of fluoride) may cause mild fluorosis in children, but this is rare and preventable with parental guidance.
Bottom line: fluoride isn’t the enemy—it’s your teeth’s best defense.
